Pel? (chosen as "Athlete of the Century" by the IOC in 1999) started his career with the team in 1956, at the age of 15, and remained with Santos for 17 years. With him, Santos became a record holder Club winning 2 America's Continental Cup and 2 Intercontinental Cup in 1962 and 1963; 6 National Championships, being 5 in a row ( Ta?a Brasil 1961-65 ) - still a national record - and 1 "Robert?o" ( 1968 ); which, with the addition of the 2 National titles from Post-Pel? era ( 2002 and 2004 ) make the Santos FC the Brazilian team with more National Cups won with 8 amounted in total.
